South Africa’s baseballers must defeat hosts Mexico to progress to the second round of the World Baseball Classic in Mexico City. This is the result of being clubbed 8-1 by powerhouses Cuba in their opening match.

Players competing in the different teams include 52 Major League Baseball All-Stars and the coach of the South African team, seven-time All-Star Lee Smith, is the pitcher with the third most saves in baseball history.
